Project overview
Work shaped by place and purpose.
The 33.5 MW Bulanog–Batang Hydropower Project is a proposed hydroelectric development in Talakag, Bukidnon, Mindanao, Philippines. GALERIO conducted a comprehensive geotechnical and geophysical investigation to characterize subsurface geological conditions and provide essential engineering data for the planning and design of major hydropower infrastructure. The investigation covered key project components, including the weir, intake, headrace, head tank, anchor block, powerhouse, tailrace, and switchyard. The scope involved exploratory drilling, in-situ geotechnical testing, permeability assessment, downhole seismic testing, and seismic prospecting to evaluate subsurface conditions relevant to the project's structural and foundation design.
Our contribution
Services provided
- The geotechnical and geophysical investigation supports the engineering design and development of the proposed hydropower project. The investigation findings provide technical information relevant to foundation design, subsurface characterization, and assessment of geological conditions.
- Applicable engineering standards, project specifications, and regulatory requirements are subject to the approved project design and governing technical documents.
- Technical Capabilities:
- 15 exploratory boreholes with a combined drilling depth of 1,000 meters
- 188 Standard Penetration Tests (SPT)
- 20 in-situ permeability tests
- Downhole seismic testing reaching depths of up to 140 meters
- Seismic prospecting along survey lines totaling 3,600 meters
- Subsurface geological and geotechnical characterization
- Foundation investigation for hydropower infrastructure
- Geotechnical and geophysical data acquisition for engineering design
- Approach:
- Review available geological information, project layouts, and proposed hydropower infrastructure locations.
- Conduct exploratory borehole drilling at designated project sites to investigate subsurface soil and rock conditions.
- Perform Standard Penetration Tests to assess subsurface resistance and support geotechnical characterization.
- Conduct in-situ permeability tests to evaluate the hydraulic characteristics of subsurface formations.
- Perform downhole seismic testing to obtain subsurface seismic velocity information.
- Carry out seismic prospecting along designated survey lines to investigate subsurface geological and geophysical conditions.
- Compile and interpret geotechnical and geophysical investigation results to support engineering design and construction planning.
